Goodbye Bloating

Oh no! Not again! !

Foul-smelling flatulence (the "famous" farts), cramps, bloating, rumbling intestines - it's not pleasant if you experience this on a daily basis.

Why is this happening to me?

There can be several explanations and origins for these problems. What is certain is that, barring a digestive disorder or serious intolerances, it is possible to reduce the symptoms and/or resolve the problem.

It's worth talking about, or at least reading what follows. For many of you, there's a solution within reach by changing a few small habits.

Bloated stomach in the morning?

If you wake up bloated and sometimes constipated, it's important to eat a lighter evening meal and eat more fiber. Eat an apple a day, add bran cereal (like All-Bran) to your burgers, drink two glasses of water daily, and go for a walk. This will improve your bowel movements and help you get rid of constipation.

Does your stomach swell throughout the day?

If your stomach is "flat" when you wake up but bloats as the day goes on, it is probably due to a digestive problem.

Two absolutes:

  1. Eat foods that digest quickly first (consume vegetables and fruits before proteins).

  2. Avoid carbonated drinks, gum, and drinking with a straw.

Some easy solutions:

  • avoid fried foods
  • favor cooked fruits and vegetables over raw ones.
  • Avoid certain FODMAP foods (onions, mushrooms, cabbage, sweeteners, etc.)
  • Eat slowly (see my two tips below)
  • Add sage and cardamom when you cook.

 

My 2 tips to avoid eating too fast

1. Chew while counting from 1 to 8 (or 8 counts)

As you now know, I am in solitary confinement which leads me to eat faster or to eat while listening to Netflix.
To avoid that, I count from 1 to 8. Since I like several styles of music, I count 8 beats / 2 bars when listening to Spotify 😉

2. Savor what you eat

The second tip is to appreciate what you're eating. Sometimes, the perfect bite is worth lingering over. Enjoy the moment and savor it.
